Protect Precious Memories Workshop

Using museum standards, the York Archaeological Trust will draw on its specialist Conservation Team to help you identify the “Star Objects” of your lives.  These could be photos, letters, books, jewellery, wedding dresses, quilts, baby clothes, children’s toys and artwork.  The workshop will give advice on how to store and pack these objects so they are protected from the likely impact of a flood or can be transported quickly if the need arises.

The Conservation Team will guide you through what materials can be easily cleaned and salvaged after a flood and which may take more time and money to repair. This will help you to prioritise the objects that need to be protected at a time of crisis.

Family workshops are also being offered so that young people are also prepared. The belongings chosen for “Star Object” status by a young person may be very different from those chosen by an adult. By having a separate plan for their objects, the young person is encouraged to feel in control of the situation and which important artefacts of their life they want to protect.

At the end of the workshops, you and your family will be able to create a plan for your precious objects so both you and the objects are prepared for emergencies. You can protect those star objects and the precious memories they contain for future and create some peace of mind.

Standard workshops are at 14.00, and sessions aimed at a family audience at are 10.00.
