FESTIVAL 17 The Man Who Would Be King: Harald Hardrada, Jerusalem, and 1066 with Justin Hill
Known popularly as the ‘Last Viking’, Harald Hardrada lived an extraordinary life.
Once a member of the elite Varangian Guard in Byzantium, he rose through the ranks to become King of his homeland of Norway and a serious contender to the English throne in 1066.
Join us for a lively and engaging talk with author Justin Hill, winner of both Sunday Times and Washington Post Book of the Year, as he retraces the achievements of the Norwegian king, who died just outside York at the Battle of Stamford Bridge.
