Home Educator Experience Day - July 2026
Join us for a Viking-themed day of exploration and hands-on activities on Tuesday 21st July, brought to you for the first time by JORVIK Viking Centre and the Yorkshire Museum.
We have partnered with York Museums Trust to bring home educators an Experience Day that includes an interactive trip back in time at JORVIK Viking Centre, a visit to the Yorkshire Museum to participate in their exciting Discover: Viking North workshop, and time for a packed lunch built into the schedule.
Visiting JORVIK Viking Centre: Step back in time to the year 960 and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Viking-age York. Pupils can experience life in Viking York, see 1,000-year-old artefacts, and learn directly from our friendly Viking guides.
Voyage into the past with the Yorkshire Museum’s Discover: Viking North workshop! Explore the museum and handle real Viking objects to uncover the lives of Viking warriors, traders and craftsmen in the north of England. Afterwards, create your very own piece of Scandinavian jewellery using clay.
Just select the correct number of tickets for your party and the rest is taken care of, with a dedicated schedule designed just for home educating families to experience this immersive learning offer together:
10:30 Visit JORVIK Viking Centre
12:00 Lunch in the DIG Lunch Space
13:00 Discover: Viking North workshop at the Yorkshire Museum
14:30 Departure
Please note that we require a ratio of at least 1 adult per 5 children in your party and children need to be accompanied by an adult at all times throughout the experience day. All activities are suitable for ages 7-14.
Before placing your booking, please read our FAQs about home education visits or contact the JORVIK Reservations team at schools@yorkat.co.uk if you have any specific requirements you wish to discuss with us first.
Access: Accessibility information for learning visits to York Archaeology attractions can be found here and for the Yorkshire Museum here.
Please be advised that, as the JORVIK Viking Centre is based underground, we are only able to admit one wheelchair user in the building at a time. In addition, due to fire evacuation requirements at the Yorkshire Museum, we can allow access to no more than four wheelchair users in the building at any one time. If you have a member of your party who uses a wheelchair, please contact the JORVIK Reservations team directly on 01904 615505 rather than booking online.
