York Archaeology Training Excavation - School Green - Weekend
York Archaeology’s training excavation - where anyone can try their hand at archaeology! Whether you are a novice amateur archaeologist, student or experienced underground explorer, as you’ll be working alongside our professional archaeologists as they guide and train you throughout the excavation.
York Archaeology Training Excavation - School Green 2025
After two successful years excavating in the grounds of Willow House, the time feels right for a new adventure. This summer, we’ll be looking to pastures new and seeing if the grass truly is greener on the other side… of the road.
Following a successful public consultation with residents of the Walmgate area, we will now turn our focus to an unassuming area of grass that we have named School Green. The space was identified as a potential archaeological hotspot during research led by participants of our Archaeology on Prescription social prescribing project.
We will be on-site daily from 9:30 to 5, with plenty of tea breaks and a 45 minute lunch break.
Longer courses can possibly be arranged – please contact us at TrainingDig@yorkat.co.uk.
Please note, the cost does not include accommodation. That is the responsibility of each trainee.
Accessibility guides are available at https://www.yorkarchaeology.co.uk/access-guide-willow-house or by emailing trainingdig@yorkat.co.uk
