Summer Lates: An Evening with Vikings

Step into the world of the Norse this summer with a unique after-hours experience on Thursday 14 August - perfect for an unforgettable date night.
An Evening with Vikings invites you to explore Viking-age Coppergate in the quieter glow of twilight. Wander the reconstructed streets with a knowledgeable guide, encounter the characters of the past, and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Viking life - without the usual daytime crowds.
To end the evening, enjoy a complimentary glass of mead (or non alcoholic alternative) in our atmospheric gallery - the perfect toast to a special night steeped in history.

Tickets are £25 per person, with timed sessions at 7:00pm, 7:30pm, and 8:00pm.
Pre-booking is essential. Walk-ups will not be admitted, and discounts cannot be applied to this ticket type.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your booking time, and have your ticket ready to be scanned.

Safety notes:

Visitors should also be aware that the floor of Viking-age Coppergate is quite uneven so we would recommend suitable footwear. A virtual tour is available for those who are unsteady on their feet or wheelchair users. This is displayed on a tablet, and is available on request.  Unfortunately, the set was designed to be toured in the suspended Time Capsules and is not wheelchair or pushchair friendly.

Join us for a special evening event on Thursday 21 August, as we explore the fearsome world of Viking warriors and their legendary swords.
Led by an expert speaker in the development of swords, Blades of the North offers visitors a rare chance to tour Viking-age Coppergate after hours. Learn about the craftsmanship, symbolism, and battlefield power of Viking blades as you walk through the immersive Viking setting, guided by a knowledgeable guide and brought to life by the characters who once roamed these streets.

Join us on Thursday 28 August for an after-hours journey into the brutal and brilliant world of Viking combat.
Weapons and Warfare offers a special chance to explore Viking-age Coppergate in the evening, led by a knowledgeable guide and followed by a talk from an expert speaker in Viking warfare. Discover how Viking warriors prepared for battle, the weapons they wielded, and the tactics that helped them dominate across Europe - from fearsome axes to disciplined shield walls.
This is a must for anyone fascinated by the strength, strategy, and sheer grit of the Viking age.
